Braveheart

Braveheart is the story about William Wallace, a rebel leader of Scotland, who fought against England in XII century. The movie shows realistically the life of people that lived in this age.
The story starts with a Wallace as boy in the Highlands of Scotland. His father and brother died during an Edward Longshanks campaign. He leaves Scotland, and journeys to France and Italy. Many years after, he comes back to Scotland.
When he comes back, he fall in love and get married. But his wife is killed. Then, he starts a little insurgency. The movement goes growing and soon is general insurgency against English power. He allied with others Scotland clans and together defeat English army in Stirling.
But then, the English king arrived to Scotland and wins the Falkirk battle. Wallace is captured and dies, before had been tortured.
The movie has a lot of difference with history. For example, Wallace was a young nobleman, not a commoner as the movie shows him.
The movie has one of the best soundtracks in Hollywood films. It was composed by James Horner.

I would remember the day we leave this English course and we organize a "farewell party". It was really nice.

There were many preparations, a chain of at least 100 emails to coordinate the "party", which was very entertaining. There was plenty of food and drinks, we talked about many thinks, we laughed a lot and enjoyed the company.

Finally, some followed the party, others returned early (too early).

Thanks to Felipe for providing the department, thanks to those who came to buy things.

The day after that...

A few weeks ago something truly amazing happened to me... (Naaaaa...)

My wife and my son went to the house of her mother and I was alone in the house... Yujuu.

I called a couple friends, but they had already commitments for the day, so I decided to watch a movie of those that one has seen about 558 times.

I took the disc and it didn't work... well, after so long without using the DVD machine is usually to not work well.

I decided to watch a cable movie, for my luck, one of my favorites movies were exhibiting in the 666 channel, I got a cold beer, but there were none in the refrigerator and they were very hot. I sat down to watch the movie, but the schedule was outdated and didn't correspond to what was on TV. $%&#$%&#/

After that I realized that I shouldn't have waked up the day... and teaching is the only way a day is a good day is in this with my family...

The Professional

Leon is a murderer who works for the Italian Mafia. All goes well until he saves the life of a little girl, Mathilda, he saves her from corrupt cops who kill her family.

Mathilda asks Leon to teach you to be a killer, in exchange for that, she will teach him to read. At first he refused, but then accepted his offer.

After a while, she decides to take revenge on the murderers of his family, but they catch it. Leon decides to help and there begins the slaughter.

At the end of the movie everyone dies except for Mathilda, the girl, and Luc Besson, the director.

Khaled Hosseini is an afghan-born American novelist and MD. His debut novel, The Kite Runner in 2003, was an international bestseller, selling more than 12 million copies worldwide. His second, A thousand Splendid Suns, released on May, 2007, was the bestselling novel in the United Kingdom, with more than 700,000 copies sold.

His Bio:

Hosseini was born in Kabul where his father worked for the Afghanistan Foreign Ministry. In 1970, Hosseini and his family moved to Iran, where his father worked for the Embassy of Afghanistan. In 1973, Hosseini's family returned to Kabul. In 1976, the family moved to Paris, France. They chose not to return to Afghanistan because the People´s Democracy of Afghanistan had seized power through a bloody coup in April 1978. In 1980 they ask for political asilum in the USA and lived in California.

Hosseini earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1988 and in 1993 he earned his MD. He completed his residency in internal medicina in Los Angeles in 1996. He practiced medicine until a year and a half after the release of The Kite Runner. He is currently a Goodwill Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

His Novels:

The Hangover

Doug and Tracy Garner are about to get married, very soon. Two days before the wedding, Doug and his 3 more friends travel to a 24-hour stag party to Las Vegas. However, everything becomes a problem.

The morning after their arrival in Las Vegas, they awaken in their hotel suite, with the worst hangover. None remembers what happened in the past twelve hours, certain things are in the suite that shouldn't be (a Tiger, a chicken, a baby…), and others things are missing, like Doug. Then, Phil, Stu and Alan try to find Doug whit little information, before the wedding in Los Angeles.

The Hangover is an entertaining film that mixes action and comedy, the emergence of Mike Tyson in a secondary role, and all the adventures of 3 friends looking to the late Doug in Las Vegas.

Cerro San Cristóbal: A tipical Ride in Santiago.

Cerro San Cristobal is located in the city of Santiago, capital of Chile, between the towns of Providencia and Recoleta, near to Barrio Bellavista and is a part of the Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, the largest urban park in the world.

It has two entrances and you can reach the hill by walking, cycling or by metro and to reach the summit you can use the “funicular” or “teleférico”, and there you can have a panoramic view of the city of Santiago and the Cordillera de los Andes or visit one of the two pools: Tupahue and Antilén, or the Zoológico Metropolitano.

The Cerro San Cristobal is a typical walk in Santiago, combining urban tourism, places to photograph and beautiful views of the capital.

A Flight day

The last saturday I went to America. Was my first time in that country. I arrived to Santiago international airport at 7.00 pm. My flight left Santiago at 9:00 pm. When I took off, I could see Santiago from the hights. It was really beautiful.
During the flight I had the dinner. Later I tried to sleep, but I couldn't, airplanes are very uncomfortable. When I was flighting the caribbean sea, an electrical storm began. It was amazing see the lights.
I arrived to Miami at 5.00 am. I had to wait for my next flight 3 hours. I used that time to know Miami International airport.
I left Miami at 8:00 am. to flight to Atlanta. There I had to rent a car. My professor drove to Knoxville. The journey take like 3 hours.
Finally I arrived to the hotel at 16:00. I was very exhausted.

Ray Charles

Ray Charles Robinson was an American musician, who was a pioneer in soul music. Ray was born in Albany, Georgia in 1930. Whose parents was Aretha William, a sharecropper, and Bailey Robinson.

Ray showed special interest for music. One day he heard "boogie woogie" on a piano. That day, he learnt the basic musical scales for blue.

But, the disgrace appeared in Ray's life. His brother died drowned when he was 4. This tragical experience stamped for the rest of his life. Some years after, Ray started to lose his sight. When he was 7, he became completely blind. His mother died when he was 15, and his father, 3 years later.

Alone and without help, Ray began to play in local radios and bars. His voice and his talent for piano stared to be famous. In 1953 he scored his first singles called "Mess Around". Ten years later, he became one of the most famous musician in USA. His music were played in radios all over the country.

In 1965, Ray was arrested for possession of heroin. He was taken to a clinic for rehabilitation. He won his fight against drug and came back to music

Ray Charles died in 2004. His music still remains around the world as a proof of his extraordinary talent.

The (un)luckiest guy in the world...

Many people say Frane Selak is the the luckiest man in the world.

He is a music teacher from Croacia. He was born in 1929 and this is a little review of why they say that.

In 1962 he began his strange streak of fortune. In that year the train he was riding fell into an icy river killing 17 people, but he come out alive.
In 1963 he traveled on a plane that crashed, killing 19 people.
In 1966 he traveled on a bus that came out of the road and fell into a river, killing 4 people.
In 1970 he traveled in his car when it suddenly began to fire, he reached out the vehicle before the fuel tank began to burst.
In 1973 a fuel gas station dispersed some gas over another car that drove Frane, which made fire come out vents, only burned his hair.
In 1995 he was hit by a bus, he suffered only minor injuries.
In 1996 he overturned his car on a mountain road, he reached to jump from the car before a truck crashed with him and the car exploded 100 meters below.
Finally, in June 2003, after 40 years, he bought a lottery ticket earning over a million dollars.
In 2004 he was hired to do a commercial in Australia. At first he agreed but then he changed his mind because he didn't want to test his luck.

After all this information, Frane Selak, perhaps he is the luckiest person in the world, but anyone who approaches him runs the risk of death.

Persa Bio Bio...

One of the areas that I believe is one of the most interesting neighborhood of Santiago is Bio Bio. This is located in the southern of Santiago Centro.

In it you can find all kind of things. In the past, this is a free market where people had their things to sell and put them on the street for people to see. Today, there are a lot of trade established in that neighborhood.

You can find everything, from a clock's screw to electrical equipment of last generation. You could say it is like a mall, but for poor people.

Since childhood I've gone to this neighborhood, many times only to look at what people sell, but now when I go there, I try to buy something for my home. I cannot return with my hands empty.

De-Lovely

De-Lovely is an original musical portrait of American composer Cole Porter, filled with his unforgettable songs.

The film was directed by Irwin Winkler. It stars Kevin Kline as Cole Porter and Ashley Judd as Linda Lee Thomas. The film was nominee to two Golden Globe in 2005 and won a Satellite Award for Best Art Direction/Production Design

The film is based on the life and career of Porter, from his first meeting, including his deeply complicated relationship with his wife and muse Linda, until his death.

Cole Porter is in the end of his life but before that append, he see all his life pass front his eyes, but obviously not in a ordinary way, his life flashes before him in the form of a musical production staged by the archangel Gabriel in the Indiana theater where the composer first performed on stage, through elaborate production numbers and popular hits like "Anything Goes," "Love For Sale," and "Night and Day”.

De-Lovely covers almost forty years, travelling from Paris to Venecia, from New York to Hollywood, including more of thirty songs composite by Porter and interpreted by many different singers from Alanis Morissette to Natalie Cole, and also with the interpretation of Kline and Judd in one of the most beautiful song “In The Chill Of The Night”.

Is a singular history of love, about a man who wrote an infinity of song more captivating and enduring of the twentieth century. Through his music, Porter sought the mean of love during all his life, when in fact, was next to him all the time.

Hello everyone, my name is Eduardo Soto (LALO). I am 32 years old and I was born in Santiago on a cold July morning in 1978 in Paula Jaraquemada hospital, now called San Borja Arriaran.

I’m happily married for three years with Claudia. I have a small child of 6 month old, Emilio. They are all for me.

I’m living in Til Til. I’m Computer Engineer and recently graduate of Industrial Engineer.

I play football soccer as the last man, if a naive rival player approaches me dominating the ball, and he has any lucky, I'll hit the ball and give it to a team partner, but if I can’t hit the ball, I drop him to the ground, “The player or the ball pass, both never. Also I like computer games, when I have some time I play DOTA (Defense Of The Ancients), this is a map of Warcraft III, online game.

I really love meat, especially to barbecue at my house, I really enjoy that, so the next barbecue is in my house!!!.

Movie Review

The Bourne Identity was directed by Doug Liman who, until then, was an unknown american director. Its star Matt Damon, plays the part of an especial agent with a lost of memory (amnesia). The movie has no received any awards but even thus, it still being an extraordinary action movie.

The film is set at in Italy, then in Swiss and at last in France (Paris).

The film is about a young man who is rescued in the middle of the sea by a fishing boat. Unfortunately he had amnesia and couldn't remember nothing of its past. He was left in Genova (Italy) with a bank account number of swiss, then he traveled to this country in an effort to find out something of its past. In the bank he obtains a lot of passport with many identities, a lot of money and a gun. One of this identities had a residence in Paris, so he convinced to a woman who met in the street to take him with her. When they arrived to the appartment of him in Paris, were attacked by a very crazy man, but the star impresse the audience with his fighting skills.

Overall the film is an exciting mix of chase and escape, where the star just wants to know who is him really.

I strongly recommend The Bourne Identity to all who enjoy the action movies. Once the action start it doesn't stop until the end.

A day in the past

I remember the day when were born my two kids. However, when the first one was ready to be born, I was working in Antofagasta. Unfortunately, because the distance (1.300 Kms from Santiago), I arrived late and I missed the childbirth.

My grandmother always said "there isn't a first without a second", so I could take a revenge with my second kid. I entered to the childbirth room and I could see the most amazing thing that I never had seen. Even today, if I close my eyes and I focus on that day, I can see each moment of those wonderful 15 minutes.

All started at 4.00 AM. I took my wife to the Clinic, but first I had to take my daughter with her grandmother. When we arrived at the Clinic we were received by a nurse. She took us to a especial room where she made some testing and exams. After a couple of minute, she recomended us to go to our home because the dilatation wasn't enough to pass at the next level. We were obedient and went to home. We arrived at 5.30 AM and we try to sleep something. An hour later my wife woke me up again telling me that we had to come back to the Clinic because the baby was ready. For second time we arrived to the Clinic, that time we were received for another nurse who made the same testing and exams. This time (6.30 AM), the nurse told us the baby was ready and called the doctor.

Into the childbirth room all happened quite fast. The baby was born in only 15 minutes and was in perfect conditions. That was one of the happiest day in my life.

Famous Person

A simple person, who became famous in a very short period of time was the ex chilean president Michelle Bachelet In many aspect she was really incredible. She was capable to go agains the predictions getting the presidency as the first women in Chile.
Her simplicity, charm and popularity led her to hearts of people and the highest levels of adherence.
As a Socialist, she was dedicated to improve the life quality of most poor people in Chile. I guess she will be remembered for many generations.

An interesting neighborhood

A tipical neighborhood in Santiago es Bellavista, emplaced in municipality of Providencia. It has been a very interesting place for all foreing visitor, because its restaurants, crafts, and its enviroment.

Very near from it is possible to find one of the entrance to San Cristobal hill which is the most important hill in Santiago and where "Virgen Maria" devotees climb up the statue located at the top. On this hill is located Parque Metropolitano, the most large and beatiful place in the city. To get to the top the hill, you can do it by lift or through the road by car, bike or even walking. Standing in the top is possible to see all the city, and if there is not much smog, is possible to get a really beautiful sight.

I like very much this neighborhood because you can enjoy it in family.

Tired Day

Yesterday i get up before 5.30 AM, because i need to go to the airport to left my old sister, she went to Colombia to live. She had flight at 8.20 AM. After wait in a large line for the shipping, we could say goodbye and wish her the best luck in her changed of life.

With my family returned to San Bernardo to 8.00 AM. I slept a few hours more and then I went to Buin with a friends to talk with a client, she works as beekeepes with a new method called biodymanic.

After 2 PM, we returned to my house and we lunched, after that watched a movie/documentary, called ZOO.

5:30 PM. We took the bus and subway, I went to class of english, he went to his home.

In class we did the TOEIC exam. Really entertaining.

At 10.45 PM I arrived home and went to bed, after a really busy and tired day.

Jon Bonachon

His favorite music style is polka. He can play accordion, guitar and bongos. Jon wears contact lenses, his favorite color is red. He likes decaffeinated coffee and chocolate-chip cookies.

Jon has been bad at dating, even though he believes himself to be a smooth-talking ladies man.
